Social

Description

This capitalisation project addresses the crucial role of the tourism sector in the Mediterranean by developing and promoting sustainable tourism products, which is considered to be a crucial tool for the socio-economic development of the region, for social inclusion and job creation in the most disadvantaged areas of the Mediterranean.

In particular, the project will promote, extend and highlight the results achieved and the actors involved in sustainable tourism projects previously implemented in the Mediterranean basin, such as the CROSSDEV project.

Restart Med! widens the horizon of tourism in lesser-known destinations with a special focus on small/medium-sized enterprises and local communities as well as on particular sectors such as adventure tourism, slow tourism, gamification, gastronomy, cultural heritage, etc.

Restart Med! supports tourism operators and encourages them to work together with civil society organisations to not only overcome the pandemic, but to also create more resilient communities, more sustainable products and policies, and to welcome responsible tourists to lesser-known destinations.

Goals

  • To encourage new sustainable tourism practices for operators, travellers, policy makers and local communities.
  • To revitalise the local economies of lesser-known tourist destinations through a diversified offer and a new brand that attracts new tourists.

Output and results

  • Utilisation and promotion of good practices and results of previous sustainable tourism projects applicable at various levels in new types of tourist destinations.
  • Strengthening and extending the co-operation network of previous projects through the creation of a new common brand.
  • Impact on local authorities and policy makers in the application of good sustainable tourism practices and dissemination at mainstream policy level.
