Cuba: A ritmo de inclusión – Innovative cultural actions for a changing context

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Cuba is facing major social, economic and cultural transformations. Throughout the country, the cultural sector has also been strongly affected by the situation over the past year.

CISP has been working for more than a decade to foster the emergence of a dynamic cultural sector in Cuba: we promote the use of cultural resources based on territorial development, employment and income generation, poverty reduction, the strengthening of existing cultural projects and the emergence of innovative cultural initiatives that contribute to social transformation and human development.

We approach culture as a factor that adds value to development and increases its impact. Culture becomes for all intents and purposes a sector of economic activity and a sustainable tool for social cohesion and peace which is essential for human development.

The experience of working in the cultural sector, with art collectives, youth groups, communities, civil society organisations and institutions, in this changing context, highlights the need to mobilise citizen participation in all spheres and especially to promote the participation of young people in the spaces of decision-making and political dialogue.
