Description

The Green-AL project contributes to the improvement and inclusion of environmental civil society organisations in effectively addressing environmental challenges in Albania.

The action focuses on strengthening networks of small local CSOs and creating new opportunities for collaboration between them, public authorities and the private sector at a local level in order to build a vibrant, empowered and collaborative civil society, starting from the grassroots and then impacting at a national level.

The project envisages the introduction and implementation of a multi-stakeholder response to urgent environmental needs, in line with the country’s pressing environmental priorities and the SIDA/Sweden Strategy 2014-2020.

Goals

  • To improve the capacity of Albanian local environmental CSOs through a comprehensive capacity building strategy.
  • To introduce innovative environmental management and capacity building models through a sub-grant component for environmental projects.
  • To strengthen the advocacy role of civil society organisations in environmental policy-making processes in Albania.

Activities

  • Technical assistance and training
  • Studies and research on environmental issues
  • Financial support to CSOs with sub-grants
  • Awareness raising and information on the territory and with schools
  • Technical seminars and workshops

Output and results

  • Environmental CSOs institutionally and financially supported in the process of improving their skills
  • The scope and depth of environmental issues reported by local CSOs in Albania are broadened and improved through innovative approaches and broad partnerships
  • The capacity of CSOs to engage in advocacy and policy dialogue is improved and applied in ongoing policy processes
