Kafamuya

The “Kafamuya” (to bring to light, to recognize) project aims to support the protection and defence of human rights in Mali, affirming the need to strengthen social cohesion. In particular, the project addresses the protection of the most vulnerable people in the area of migration, be they women involved in human trafficking, victims of sexual exploitation or gender minorities.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the protection and defense of the rights of migrant communities (on the move, refugees/asylum seekers, internally displaced persons) with a focus on gender minorities in Mali. More specifically, the program aims to support the creation of a protection system for migrant communities, particularly gender minorities, by providing them with assistance, integration and an advocacy network in Bamako and Mopti.

• Capacity building of reception facilities for migrants and gender minorities.
• Support in a reception center for migrants on the move with information services, discussion groups, accommodation and health care in Bamako.
• Creation of a reception/listening service for refugee women and asylum seekers in the cities.
• Implementation of psychosocial work with IDPs in the Mopti and Bamako areas.
• Assistance to victims of human trafficking and victims of sexual exploitation from different migrant communities.
• Organization of community awareness sessions on the rights of migrant communities.
• Funding of micro-projects to local NGOs for the promotion and protection of human rights in migration contexts.
• Mapping migration actors in Mali.
• Advocacy roundtables on the rights and protection of recipients and capitalization day.
• Promoting the integration of the Malian gender minority community within African human rights structures.

Strengthened holistic assistance for the protection and advocacy of migrant communities and their social integration, gender minorities and women victims of human trafficking.

• 3 training sessions for local workers on intervention techniques with target groups.
• 720 migrant women on the move hosted and assisted.
• 8 host sites made accessible.
• Approximately 4500 people have access to psycho-social support services.

Knowledge of and respect for human rights specific to migrant communities is widespread and known by migrants, national authorities and the general public in Mali.

• Some 8500 people participate in awareness-raising activities on the promotion and defence of human rights.

A network of national and international civil society organisations is established to implement specific strategies for the promotion and defence of the rights of migrant communities, with a focus on gender minorities.
