Reverse: from emergency to resilience

Multisectoral intervention in the Somali Regional State which aims at a triple purpose:

1. To protect local, displaced and refugee populations from the ongoing pandemic and other pathologies present in the project areas.
2. To train and inform to prepare for the recovery and stabilization phase
3. To strengthen resilience capacities, building intersectoral networks and intervening with the rehabilitation and conservation of water point systems, the management of agricultural resources, the promotion of income-generating activities.

The implementation areas are Aw-Bere and Bokolomayo – Somali Regional State.

• Contribute to strengthening the resilience of the resident and displaced population of the Somali Regional State to emergencies and climate change, in a triple NEXUS perspective: emergency, development, peace.
• Strengthen the integrated system of health, protection, WASH (water, sanitation and hygene) services, livelihoods and the ability of local and displaced populations to respond adequately to emergencies in the short-, medium- and long-term period, including the COVID-19 pandemic, in Aw-Bere and Bokolmayo districts.

• Implementation of training activities for the health workers of the Aw-Bere and Bokolmayo health centers on maternal-child and reproductive health, malnutrition, the management of public health emergencies and the health management information system.
• Creation of a community-based protection mechanism and training and income-generating activities for 250 vulnerable women.
• Construction of latrines and extension of the water distribution from the Mohamed Ali and Gerbehadle wells (Aw-Bere District) to the residence site of the displaced population and to a school.
• Creation of 12 agricultural cooperatives of irrigation.
• Promotion of income-generating activities for 80 selected women from refugee, displaced and host communities.

• Strengthen the quality and accessibility of prevention and treatment health services, and the ability of Health Centers to respond to the COVID-19 emergency and future pandemics.
• Community-based protection system (CBP) and the possibility of accessing income-generating activities for vulnerable women have been strengthened.
• Improved access to drinking water and sanitation and strengthened hygiene practices to combat the spread of COVID-19 and other health emergencies.
• Improved the food security of the target populations through interventions in support of the agricultural-pastoral sector with particular attention to women.
