Somali youth lead the development of the national strategy for culture

In May 2021, the Somali Academy of Arts and Sciences (SOMASA), in collaboration with the Somali Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education (MOECHE), UNESCO and CISP Somalia, held a national consultation and validation workshop for the Somalia National Culture Strategy and Action Plan for the period 2021-2025 to engage youth and other key stakeholders on how to create a more relevant plan and respond to their needs, priorities and challenges. The workshop was part of the “ArtXchange” project funded by the European Union and implemented by CISP Kenya and Somalia.

The workshop mobilised 55 cultural actors engaged in a participatory process to review the cultural strategy. Among them were 35 Somali youth from SOMASA in Mogadishu and 20 Somali and international participants who took part in the online event.
