Mali

CISP has been operating in Mali since 2004, initially through activities managed from Algeria and later, since 2019, through its own country office. The organization works in the regions of Bamako, Mopti, Sikasso, Timbuktu, and Kayes in the areas of migration, protection, conflict prevention between host communities and refugees, and the defense and promotion of the rights of women, children, and minorities. Interventions are carried out in close collaboration with competent authorities, humanitarian coordination actors, and target groups.

Approach

CISP’s work in Mali is characterized by three complementary approaches:

  • Triple Nexus Approach (Humanitarian – Development – Peace): CISP structures its interventions to ensure continuity between responding to the immediate needs of crisis-affected populations, strengthening resilience, and supporting social cohesion and peace dynamics. This approach aims to go beyond sector-specific responses to foster lasting transformations at the community level.
  • “Gender-Transformative” Approach Centered on Self-Determination: CISP adopts an approach that addresses not only the consequences of inequality but also its structural causes, working on social norms, power dynamics, and the participation of women and youth. This approach is put into practice, in particular, through the creation of spaces for care, expression, and agency building, using innovative participatory methodologies such as Body Mapping, CARE & Empowerment, and Photo Voice.
  • Community Psychosocial Approach Based on Local Capacity Building and Artistic Expression: CISP places local actors, communities, and institutions at the heart of its interventions. The organization views artistic expression as a tool for protection, healing, and social cohesion, especially in contexts of displacement, violence, and vulnerability. At the same time, it invests in building the capacity of local actors to foster local ownership, leadership, and sustainable change.

This combination enables CISP to develop contextualized, participatory interventions aimed at lasting transformations at the individual, community, and institutional levels.
